MIRIAM CHICKERING

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Miriam is an author and nurse educator with a background in product development, business strategy, and consulting.

MATTHEW NIKOLAIEV

BOARD MEMBER

Mr. Nikolaiev currently serves as a Vice President, Global Infrastructure, Operations, and Markets Business Technology at Ecolab. He has a background in electronics engineering and an MBA from Mays Business School at Texas A&M.

MARK STOVALL

BOARD MEMBER

Mark spent many years as the Vice President of Africa Outreach at the International Commission. He has also served in associate and senior pastor positions. Mark has a background in psychology/sociology and seminary studies.

NURSES COUNCIL

ALEX BERLAND, MSC (RN RET.)

Alex Berland has worked as a teaching hospital executive in Canada and as a consultant internationally. He applies systems thinking in all sectors of the health care industry, in higher education and in community development. Since 2004, Alex has visited South Asia regularly to support the education of nurses and community health workers.

KATHLEEN R. CAPONE, MS, RN, CNE

Kathleen is a certified nurse educator. She has over 40 years in clinical and teaching experience with a specialization in curriculum development, design, and instruction.She received her Master’s in Nursing Education from Le Moyne College in Syracuse and is completing her EdD from Capella University. She currently teaches at Utica University

LORI A. SPIES, PHD, RN, NP-C

Dr. Spies is an assistant professor and mission coordinator at Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing. She has led faculty and student missions domestically and to China, Ethiopia, Honduras, India, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, Vietnam and Zambia.

STACEN KEATING, PHD, RN

Dr. Keating is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the New York University College of Nursing (NYUCN) and brings over 20 years of nursing and teaching experience to Nurses International to help train future nurses in poorly served and impoverished areas around the world.

LUANN ETCHER, PHD, APRN, CPG

Dr. Etcher is currently a faculty in the School of Health Professions at Spring Arbor University. As a nurse scientist, educator, advanced practice clinician, and professional gerontologist, she is committed to transforming global health care and policy.

CONSULTANTS

JOSHUA STRECKER

Joshua is a freelance organizational consultant and a business owner who has worked with various faith-based non-profit organizations. He specializes in leadership development and communication and has a deep interest in sustainable and innovative farming practices.

CRAIG CLENDINEN

Craig practiced law for 20 years in both private practice and also as a prosecutor serving as Chief of the special prosecutions unit. In addition to Nurses International, he works with SIL and Wycliffe Global Alliance in the area of external relations and strategic partnerships.

FACULTY

HANNAH GUBITZ, BSN, RN, BSC

Hannah earned her BSN from MidAmerica Nazarene University and her MSN from WGU. She is currently coordinating FDA clinical trials for HIV and neurology, as well as teaching Community Health and Mental Health clinical rotations for a BSN program. She is actively pursuing a PhD in Nursing from Washington State University with a focus on healthcare and criminal justice.

DORRETT MURDOCK-MCNEIL, RGN, BSC

Dorrett obtained a Diploma in Health and Social Care, Diploma in Management Studies and Bachelor of Science in Health and Social Care from York University. She recently commenced her Masters of Science in Public Health at Northumbria University

SHEILA MULKEY HARDY, MSN, RN

Sheila earned her BSN from King College and her MSN in Nursing Education from King University (previously King College).

MARISSA TRINO, MSN

KAM MING REBECCA LEUNG, MSN, RN

Rebecca Leung received her Diploma in Nursing from Caritas Medical Center School of Nursing and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from La Trobe University. Additionally, she received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Oxford Brooke University.

LORI J. GREER, MSN, RN

Lori completed her BSN in 1986 from the University of Texas at Tyler and completed her MSN in nursing education in 2006 and taught as faculty for the University of Texas at Tyler-Longview campus for 6 years. She is currently working as a part-time simulation/skills lab coordinator.

JOSEPHINE FRANCIS, MSN., R.N., R.M., IBCLC

Josephine is a nurse educator, with 15 years of teaching experience. She has a Master’s Degree in maternity nursing and is a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) specializing in breastfeeding and lactation promotion. Josephine is multilingual, speaking Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Arabic.

EVANG SAM MBOK, B.ED, RN

Sam is a member of the International Institute for Christian Nursing (IICN) and a member at the Federal Ministry of Health where he contributes to the Core Technical Committee on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. He has an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Jos and a B. Ed.

JANICE ADAMS-KING, MSN, MS, CRNP

Captain Adams-King is an active duty Nurse Officer with more than 25 years of service in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Coppin State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science and certification in Community and Public Health Nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from the Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Studies.

BETH SHEERAN, BSN, RN, CEN, SANE

Beth is an ED nurse in Washington State and is currently involved in a comprehensive community development project in Kenya focused on health interventions, training community health volunteers, working with mothers of malnourished infants, and teaching clinicians regarding issues of health maintenance and disease prevention.

ANGELA GATHINGS, MSN, RN

Angela earned her BSN and her MSN from West Suburban College of Nursing. Currently she is a unit manager for the Government programs department in managed care for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.

AMY HUMPHREY, BSN, RN, CPN

Amy received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In August of 2016 she moved to South Africa where she is currently working as the nurse coordinator and health educator for an American-led wound care initiative.

VICTORIA SATTLER, PH.D., RN, MSN

VICKY A. KEYS, DNP, MSN, RN-BC, ACNS-BC

Professor Keys is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) board certified as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS-BC). She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) through Texas Christian University.

SHUBA SAMUEL, PHD, RN, PHD (C), FNP-C, NP-C

Shuba received her Master in Nursing –Family Nurse Practitioner at Concordia University Wisconsin in 2011. She is currently working on her PhD in Education at Walden University and is a Family Nurse Practitioner at a behavioral health unit in Milwaukee, WI.

SALLY FITZGERALD, MSN, RN, CCM

Sally earned her BSN from Penn State University, Sharon, PA and her MS in Nursing and Nursing Education from Waynesburg University, Waynesburg, PA. She received an undergraduate certificate in Nursing Informatics from Penn State University and is currently pursuing her doctorate in nursing practice (DNP) at Chamberlain College of Nursing, Downers Grove, IL.

MIRANDA SMITH, MSN, RN

Miranda earned her BSN in May 2012 and her MSN in December 2013, both from the University of North Alabama. She is currently enrolled in the Ed.D. program at the University of Alabama.

MARTHA AWOKE, MS, RN

Martha has a Bachelor’s degree from University of Maryland College Park with an emphasis in community health. She obtained a MSN from Capella University in 2014 and currently attends The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing as a DNP candidate.

KELLY SCHMIEDEKNECHT, MS, RN

Kelly graduated from the University of Michigan in 2008 with her BSN and earned her Masters in Global Health Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. She currently works part-time as an emergency nurse and for the UCSF School of Nursing, Global Health Division.

JUDITH H. WEIMER, DNP, RN, FNP-C

JACQUELINE CHRISTIANSON, MSN, FNP

Jackie has worked in a variety of settings in the health care world including the long-term care setting, inpatient setting, emergency department, laboratory services, and the pre-hospital setting with an ambulance service.

EMILEE TATUM DEAN, MSN, FNP-C

Mrs. Dean is a family nurse practitioner certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She earned both a BSN and MSN from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she graduated with honors.

CHAKA BRITTAIN, DNP, RN, CNE

Dr. Brittain is a certified nurse educator who has spent many years working in oncology, public health, and higher education.

CARLA CRIDER, MSN, RN, RNC-OB, C-EFM

Carla earned her BSN from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and her MSN from Texas Christian University. She is currently a doctoral student at the University of Alabama where she is studying educational leadership with a focus on nursing.

BUFFY REILLY, MSN, APN, RN

Carla earned her BSN from Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and her MSN from Texas Christian University. She is currently a doctoral student at the University of Alabama where she is studying educational leadership with a focus on nursing.

BONNIE HAVEN VELEZ, FNP, CRNP

Bonnie Velez is a Family Nurse Practitioner in Chester, Maryland. She received her MSN from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2009. Her BSN from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing was completed in 2003. Currently, she is a DNP student at Wilmington University.

BARBARA F. DASQUE, DHSC., RN, BIO

Dr. Dasque has over 30 years of nursing experience and has worked in leadership positions in hospital administration and home care.

ANJANA MATHEWS, MSN, RN

RUTH SWART, EDD, MHS, BN, RN, BSC

Ruth has taught nursing students in community and acute care practice areas, through simulation development and facilitation, through online formats, and in laboratory, practicum, and lecture classroom settings.

MELISSA POLLARD, DNP, RN-BC, APRN, FNP/GNP-BC, CEN, CCRN, WCC

Dr. Pollard has 31 years of nursing experience, both as a clinician and educator. She is active in educational roles, working in professional staff development with a strong interest in simulation and Team STEPPS.

MARY A. HELMING, PHD APRN, FNP-BC, AHN-BC

Dr. Helming has been a Family NP for 37 years and a faculty member at Quinnipiac University for 17 years. She teaches both undergraduate BSN and graduate FNP and AGNP Doctor of Nursing Practice students.

CHRISTINA CARTER, DNP, MBA

Dr. Carter has over 28 years of experience in clinical and administrative positions in settings from physician practices to integrated health systems, including roles as Chief Nursing Officer and Corporate Director of Clinical Systems.

THERESA JONES, PHD, RN

Dr. Jones earned her Ph.D. from Capella University. She works full-time at Fairmont State University as an Assistant Professor of Nursing and part-time at the VA Medical center as a nursing supervisor.

JULIE FURROW, PHD, APRN, FNP-BC

Dr. Furrow teaches in the online RN-BSN program at Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia and has completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in education with emphasis in nursing education from Capella University. She also works as a nurse practitioner in rehabilitation and physical medicine.

AMY ROBERTS TOONE, PHD, MA, FNP-BC, RN

Amy is a professor at University of Texas at Tyler and is currently Director for the APN programs. She has served as the graduate program director at Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing and the FNP coordinator at Baylor University.
