Nurses International: Empowering Nurses Through Open Access Education

Lately, we’ve been receiving more questions about who we are and what we do at Nurses International (NI). We thought this would be a great opportunity to share our story and highlight the resources we provide to support nurses around the world.

At Nurses International (NI), we believe that every nurse deserves access to high-quality, evidence-based education, no matter where they live or work. Nurses are the backbone of healthcare, and when they have the tools they need to succeed, entire communities benefit.

This is why we are dedicated to breaking down barriers to nursing education by providing free, open-access materials and fostering global collaboration among nurse educators and healthcare institutions. Our work equips nurses not only with clinical skills but also with leadership and community development knowledge, empowering them to make lasting change in healthcare systems worldwide.

What We Do

Our mission is simple yet transformative: to empower nurses everywhere through accessible education and support that enhances patient outcomes.

So, how do we put this mission into action? We focus on four main areas:

  • Developing free, open-access nursing curriculum through our partnership with NextGenU.org, covering everything from fundamentals of nursing to specialized areas like oncology and pediatric care. These materials are designed for both educators and students, and they are evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and globally accessible.
  • Connecting colleges and institutions with expert resources, helping to strengthen existing nursing programs or establish new ones where they are needed most.
  • Equipping community health leaders through training that blends clinical instruction with community development, ensuring nurses can sustainably address healthcare needs in their local contexts.
  • Building global collaborations through our Academic Network and Clinical Alliance, where educators and institutions share tools, resources, and strategies to advance nursing education and practice.

Through these initiatives, we play a unique role in transforming nursing education, particularly in regions where resources are limited and the need for skilled healthcare providers is greatest.

Academic Network (AN)

One of the ways we support educators directly is through the Academic Network. This free membership platform provides access to fully developed nursing course materials, syllabi, quizzes, clinical checklists, and more, all aligned with national licensing requirements. Members also have the option of paid features for customization, making it a flexible resource for a wide range of educational settings.

Clinical Alliance (CA)

Another key initiative is our Clinical Alliance, a paid membership program designed to develop and validate clinical competencies for nurses. The Clinical Alliance offers tools and frameworks for professional development, supporting nurses as they strengthen both their practice and education. To learn more about the Clinical Competency Framework and its effectiveness when implemented, you can read about it in our chapter, “Perspective Chapter: Clinical Competency Framework – Standardized Nurse Competence Development,” which is published in Intech Open.

At NI, we know that when nurses succeed, communities thrive. Whether you’re an educator, a student, or a healthcare leader, you can access our resources and be part of a global movement to strengthen nursing education.
